EACH AND EVERYONE OF US
RELIES ON THE OCEAN

BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE (BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA) is registered under the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a Not-for-Profit organization established in recognition of the need to have a policy, law, training and research platform dedicated to the formulation, development, implementation and monitoring of a Blue Economy Policy Framework for Nigeria.

THE BLUE ECONOMY CONCEPT
In a nutshell, the Blue Economy Concept covers aquatic and the marine environment, including oceans, seas, coasts, lakes, rivers and underground water; its economic components include sub-sectors such as transportation, fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, ship building, underwater mining, marine biotechnology, ocean energy and related activities.

In addition, the Blue Economy Concept requires an integrated, holistic and inclusive approach that ensures sustainable use and management of Blue Economy resources for national development.
The Blue Economy Framework, therefore, is intended to move from the current sectoral approach to a multisectoral, integrated and an all inclusive approach at multiple levels.

BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE is Nigeria’s leading blue economy think-tank, its mission is to develop  a new generation of ‘blue-thinking’ bureaucrats and technocrats built around promoting Policy, Law, training and Research for wealth creation, employment generation, maritime environment protection and national security.

BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE does this by promoting dialogue, producing its own policy papers as inputs into the national and regional policy framework, in particular on its core areas of policy, capacity building, research, social inclusiveness, the rule of law, maritime environment and security.
In this regard, we will support, partner and collaborate with government, operators, international organizations, the civil society, to develop and advance strategies that are grounded in core ocean sectors which further Nigeria’s national interests.

BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE will also support and partner with government and relevant stakeholders to institute and embrace Blue Economy Principles as encapsulated in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 14 and further captured in the African Integrated Maritime Strategy (AIMS 2050) document.
We are also committed to maritime security and environment advocacy that delivers maximal impact through scientific research, legal reforms and strategic collaboration.

BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE is fully aligned with the African Integrated Maritime Strategy document (AIMS 2050) and the Revised African Maritime Transport Charter document in its quest to formulate and implement harmonized shipping policies capable of promoting concerted and sustained development of the African fleet and to foster close cooperation between the countries of the same region and between the regions of Africa.

BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE was conceived in 2018 by Mr. Suleiman Adama and Barrister Ojiji Oniri Onya it is preparing to constitute its Board with ex-staffers of NIMASA who are well trained and experienced technocrats to drive this laudable Initiative. The aggregate idea is to support and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement a workable Blue Economy Policy for Nigeria.

We look forward with optimism that by implementing a Blue Economy Policy for Nigeria, the economy will be diversified thereby creating wealth, generate employment and bring in much needed foreign exchange from the untapped rich resources of our maritime environment.

Over the past years, we have organized programs and operations designed to enrich intellectual discourse and show case our operational capacity within the Nigerian maritime domain. The 1st Port Harcourt Cabotage Roundtable, the Training of NIMASA Staff and other maritime agencies, The Removal of Wrecks from the Brass Estuary, the Salvage of Nigerian flagged MT Morris from the Port of Limbe, Republic of Cameroun, the husbanding and reception of the first privately owned LNG Tanker in Nigeria etc. are pointers.

Under the Coordination and supervision of our Board, BLUE ECONOMY NIGERIA INITIATIVE will be at the heart of the intellectual rejuvenation of Nigeria’s maritime sector through the development and implementation of a robust Blue Economy Policy for Nigeria.
We intend to score high in terms of the quality of our research independent of political and commercial bias.
